Dutch intelligence agencies have done stellar work regarding Russian misinformation campaigns after MH17. They helped uncover 65000 misinformation tweets from Russian accounts in the 2 days after the downing do the airliner. The information about the trollfarm interfering in the US elections was also uncovered by them as they watched it happen real time through a hacked webcam. They further were the agency that discovered the violation of the missile treaty by Russia and they managed to find out that 2 Russian agents entered the Netherlands and attempted to hack the OPCW which is seated in The Hague. Chapeau Dutch intelligence!!
Edit: and for those who are wondering what Dutch intelligence has to do with this, I'd like to show you this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaM0gReF8QE
If you want to see some recent Russian efforts , go check out Bill Browder’s tweet replies. He helped bring the Magnitsky Act to countries around the world which basically freezes Russian oligarch’s assets. He is constantly under fire by Russian propo bots.
Some English sources here:
We should all take a moment and recognize that every country (at least western) needs to be able to respond to cyber threats and handle them as well as the Dutch, specifically against Russia.
Russia took a gaping hole the world has known about (which is the gap between congress, western government and understanding and enacting laws to protect it's very own country) for a long time and ran with it. Russia exploited every vulnerability systematically, in an organized manner and they know the current cold war is
Digital, they've had access via their Kaspersky "Anti-Virus" programs which they gained access to sensitive information on government machines (There was also countless cisco routers targetted on a large-scale after Russia was allowed access to scrutinize every detail about their code at cisco HQ lol). Let's not forget North Korea had exactly one access point to the internet, provided by... Russia
Misinformation, troll farms, bots, automated systems used to exploit and explore vulnerabilities, keep nations divided, exploit the 'fake-news' phenomenon
Boundary pushing, they've managed to gain access to countless unsecured ip security cams, thermostats and even penetrate US power grid & utilities (in some cases nuclear facilities). Does anyone think they won't escalate this? What good is having the worlds largest military machine if you won't keep tabs on your tech-savvy Russian rival? More importantly, if you don't DO anything about it? If they have the ability to disrupt your power grid without standing up, you are outclassed.
I hope some members of government wake up or the people wake their government up, before it's too late.
